Blog 4: A movie that I like "The Arrival"

I didn't watch the movie from last class "Jimmy's Hall", but I'm going to talk about another movie, a movie that I like, and its "The arrival". Its a movie from 2016 and the principal character is played by Amy Adams, who in my opinion made a brilliant interpretation of an intelligent and sensitive strong woman. The movie is about Loise (Amy Adams) a linguist recruited by the US government to collaborate on a secret duty after the arrival of several spaceships at different spots on earth. The task was to communicate with the aliens to know why they arrived and what they wanted so the government could elaborate an action plan.

Loise its my favorite character because she represent how the violence, fear and sense of war of a social construct on the paradigms of rationality given to men, has only destroyed cultures and civilizations, and is this "female" sensitivity that made militaries and scientist understand that is not everything about rationality and war, to invade or be invaded, its about to communicate, and real communication is a complex process of sharing and interpreting information of the others, the different ways of understand or relate with reality, the conception of time, etc.

Because of this, my favorite scene is when Loise has the last contact whit the aliens, and understand that learning their language not only made her think like them, it also made her understand reality like them and experiment time differently. Its a really interesting movie if you believe that language creates and represent world constructions, and if you enjoy movies about how the paradigms of our societies and history are constructed by power discourses of male "protection" and rationality, that really means fear and violence.
